Since Justin started "nursery" school (preschool) he's relearned the alphabet by assigning each letter a phonetic name, i.e. Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben, Clever Cat, you get the idea. Cute, but translating the combination of those "letters" into a word is very confusing. So, I've started teaching Justin to read from the book "Teaching Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" (thanks for the tip Elaina). The lessons start out very easy and are only suppose to take 15-20 minutes. At first, I thought maybe a little too easy since Justin's been so restless, maybe he was bored? This doesn't mean that we flew through each lesson. On the contrary, it was taking longer because he wasn't interested. Today we made some improvement. After a short battle of whether to sit at the kitchen table or to curl up under a blanket on the sofa (we compromised - we sat on the sofa with the blanket over our legs with the condition that if he laid down, we would move in to the table), we commenced with Lesson 7. When we we're done, we had the following conversation:
M: "You're done. Good job."
J: "No, I'm not."
M: "Yes, you are. You did great!"
J: "No, I'm not. The book's still open."
M: (closing the book) "No, really you're done."
J: (with a look of bewilderment) "You're not jokin'?"
M: "I'm not jokin'. You're all done."
J: LOTS AND LOTS OF SMILES
Was it the blanket?

That book is great. He'll be a great reader. You'll love it.
Love that book. It really is a great tool to teach kids to read. Congrats on the break through of getting him interested.
