The Wait

McKenzie nodded off for a few minutes tonight before dinner.  At the dinner table, we had the following conversation:

Mc:  I dreamed about our family.  But we're not all here.
Me:  Oh, who's missing?
Mc:  The baby.
Me:  Baby Josie?
J:  She's not missing, she's just in your belly.
Mc:  But it's taking too long.

No dining room

No problem. Once the Christmas tree came down, we had a big empty room. That didn't last long. It has since become the train room.
We have a pretty good-sized play room, but the train could never stay intact for more than a couple of days without getting knocked over by other eager playmates. So, we have solved the problem . . . for awhile anyway.

The room doubles as a gymnasium when the train isn't in use. Here are a couple of our regular performers:

Makin' Daddy proud

Alex left for London this afternoon so Justin offered our family prayer tonight.  After expressing his gratitude for the prophet and his counselors, he added his thanks for "President Obama, who became our president today." So, his time frame is a little off, Alex will be beaming when he reads this.  Here's to you daddy!

Beginner Spelling

Justin decided to learn to spell on his own.  He loves to draw and label his work with his name, and often he'll ask how to spell Alex, Sarah or McKenzie so he can identify our pictures.  But lately he's started sounding words out and writing them himself.  I love Justin's eagerness to learn - sometimes it's difficult to keep up!

Going to the movies

Today I took Justin to the movies for the first time.  He was invited to a birthday party for a girl in his preschool class and the main event was High School Musical 3. So, with our popcorn and drinks, a row of 4/5 year olds and a row of their parents settled in for the 1:40 show.  They all did pretty good for the first hour (Justin looked so tiny in that big theater seat!) and then they grew more restless.  As we walked to the car I asked Justin what he thought of the movie.  He said, "it's not like I remembered."  I said, "what do you mean?"  He said, "it's not like the HSM movie we have at home."  "You're right," I said, "it was a little different."  Yes, we own HSM1 and, yes, I'm one of those 30 somethings that thinks Zac Effron is cute and, yes, I loved every minute of my date with my son! But, really, the movies at age 4?!  Justin ate so much popcorn that by the time we met everyone at the pizza/salad buffet all he wanted was cherry tomatoes and cake and ice cream.  Ah, to be young again . . .
