Makin' Daddy proud
Alex left for London this afternoon so Justin offered our family prayer tonight. After expressing his gratitude for the prophet and his counselors, he added his thanks for "President Obama, who became our president today." So, his time frame is a little off, Alex will be beaming when he reads this. Here's to you daddy!
Beginner Spelling

Justin decided to learn to spell on his own. He loves to draw and label his work with his name, and often he'll ask how to spell Alex, Sarah or McKenzie so he can identify our pictures. But lately he's started sounding words out and writing them himself. I love Justin's eagerness to learn - sometimes it's difficult to keep up!

Going to the movies
Today I took Justin to the movies for the first time. He was invited to a birthday party for a girl in his preschool class and the main event was High School Musical 3. So, with our popcorn and drinks, a row of 4/5 year olds and a row of their parents settled in for the 1:40 show. They all did pretty good for the first hour (Justin looked so tiny in that big theater seat!) and then they grew more restless. As we walked to the car I asked Justin what he thought of the movie. He said, "it's not like I remembered." I said, "what do you mean?" He said, "it's not like the HSM movie we have at home." "You're right," I said, "it was a little different." Yes, we own HSM1 and, yes, I'm one of those 30 somethings that thinks Zac Effron is cute and, yes, I loved every minute of my date with my son! But, really, the movies at age 4?! Justin ate so much popcorn that by the time we met everyone at the pizza/salad buffet all he wanted was cherry tomatoes and cake and ice cream. Ah, to be young again . . .

Vote!
The ultrasound is February 3rd. Will it be a boy or a girl? Cast your vote (on the side)! McKenzie's still hoping for a girl. Now, when you ask Justin if he wants a brother or a sister, he says "both!" Um, daddy?????
Defensive Driving 101
Yesterday I was driving home with the kids when a woman tried to change lanes and nearly ran into us. We were in her blind spot so I politely beeped my horn while veering out of the way. I refrained from saying anything, but McKenzie filled in the gap. From the backseat I hear my two-year old shout:
Dude!?!?!
Dude!?!?!
