Christmas morning used to mean sleeping in, eating late, repeat, repeat, repeat . . . Things have changed over the last few years. We had done the obligatory sit on santa's knee picture where he matter-of-factly told santa that he wanted a police car for Christmas (of course, McKenzie wanted a princess anything). As the big day grew closer, our four-year-old's excitement grew more intense. He would often exclaim, grinning from ear to ear, "I just can't wait! I just can't wait!"

The night before, Justin explained that when he heard jingle bells, he was going to run down to the front door so he could give Santa a hug. (Not sure why he said the front door and not the chimney.) This year he was up at the crack of dawn and came into our room ready to go downstairs. We told him he had to wait until McKenzie woke up. So he seated himself at the bottom of our bed and waited. [Obviously, we didn't spend the night by the tree as originally planned since our Christmas eve goodie plate deliveries took longer than expected, dinner was at Chili's and the kids were beat by the time we got home. We need to rethink the timing for this excursion next year.]

The most excitement was for the bikes they discovered were really theirs.
They had both seen them but we kept saying we were going to "give them away" (just not to whom).
But, some things don't ever change - we still spent most of the day in our pjs, dinner was wonderful, and all in all we had a lazy day listening to the kids sing Christmas carols to themselves while they played with their new treasures.
Hope you all had a happy Christmas too!
